Fakta SNMPTN 2009 terkuak bahwa persaingan masuk perguruan tinggi negeri melalui jalur Seleksi Nasional Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SNMPTN) pada tahun akademik 2009 sangatlah ketat. Jumlah pendaftarnya lebih banyak dari pada 2008, sedangkan yang diterima tetap. SNMPTN tahun 2009 diikuti 359.751 peserta dari keseluruhan 412. 248 calon mahasiswa yang mengembalikan formulir. Mereka memperebutkan 100.235 kapasitas bangku di 57 PTN se Indonesia.
Calon mahasiswa yang diterima sebanyak 92.511 dengan rincian IPA 44.504 calon mahasiswa, IPS 48.007 calon mahasiswa. Dari seluruh kapasitas yang tersedia daya tampung yang tidak terpenuhi sebanyak 7.724 bangku atau 7,7 persen. Bangku kosong PTN itu berada di 42 PTN. Sedangkan 15 PTN seluruh kapasitas bangkunya sudah terpenuhi.
Jumlah pendaftar di berbagai panitia lokal pun tampak mengalami kenaikan sebagai contoh di Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS) pada tahun 2009 tercatat tidak kurang dari 17.215 peserta atau meningkat 1.736 orang dibanding pendaftar 2008 yang mencapai 15.479 orang. Dari kelompok IPA 4.313 peserta, IPS 8.507 peserta, dan IPC 4.395 peserta, sementara itu untuk peserta tahun 2008 sebanyak 15.479 itu terdiri dari IPA 4.383 peserta, IPS 7.270 peserta dan IPC 3.826 peserta.
Fakta lainnya Unpad walaupun seperti biasa termasuk PTN yang sangat banyak peminatnya, di SNMPTN 2009 ternyata dikalahkan oleh Unimed (Universitas Negeri Medan). Betapa tidak mantan IKIP Medan itu diserbu 44.958 pendaftar. Sedangkan peminat SNMPTN 2009 di Unpad Bandung hanya sekitar 38.766 pendaftar, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) dengan 38.726 pendaftar, UNS dengan 38.722 pendaftar dan Unhas 38.372 pendaftar.
Nah bagaimana SNMNPTN 2010?
Menurut berbagai media bahwa pendaftaran Seleksi Nasional Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SNMPTN) akan dimulai 2 Mei 2010 pada pukul 08.00 WIB sampai 31 Mei 2010 pukul 16.00 WIB. Demikian disampaikan Ketua Umum SNMPTN 2010 Herry Suhardiyanto saat acara Penandatangan nota kesepakatan antara panitia pelaksana seleksi nasional masuk perguruan tinggi negeri (SNMPTN) 2010 dengan PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk di Makassar, Senin (15/2).
Menurutnya, pendaftaran secara online baru dilakukan pertama kali pada tahun ini secara utuh mulai dari pendaftaran hingga mendapatkan nomor tes SNMPTN. Beiau memperkirakan bahwa tahun ini terdapat 450 ribu hingga 500 ribu calon mahasiswa akan melakukan pendaftaran secara online.
Prosedur Pendaftaran Online SNMPTN
Calon peserta membayar biaya ujian di Bank Mandiri melalui loket, ATM, Internet Banking. Biaya pendaftaran SNMPTN 2010 tidak berubah dibanding SNMPTN 2009, yakni tetap Rp150 ribu untuk kelompok ujian IPA/IPS dan Rp175 ribu untuk kelompok ujian IPC.
Setelah melakukan pembayaran, calon peserta akan menerima bukti pembayaran yang berisi nomor identitas calon peserta, PIN SNMPTN sepanjang 16 karakter. Nomor indentitas dan PIN SNMPTN ini bersifat dan tidak boleh diperlihatkan pada orang lain. Calon peserta kemudian melakukan pendaftaran secara online (melalui internet) dengan mengunjungi alamat website www.snmptn.ac.id.
Setelah itu, calon peserta akan menerima kartu bukti pendaftaran yang telah dibubuhi materai dan telah ditandatangani berlaku sebagai kartu tanda peserta SNMPTN 2010 yang harus dibawa ketika mengikuti ujian.
Tujuan sistem online ini agar calon mahasiswa tidak perlu datang ke kampus atau mendatangi panitia lokal untuk mengisi formulir pendaftaran, namun cukup secara online melalui website SNMPTN 2010.
Seperti biasa peserta ujian dapat memilih program studi di setiap PTN di luar wilayah tempat peserta mengikuti ujian. Peserta ujian tidak perlu mengikuti ujian di tempat program studi atau PTN yang menjadi pilihannya karena peserta dapat memilih lokasi ujian yang dikehendaki.

Perubahan Fungsi Panlok
Tidak seperti tahun 2009, panitia lokal (Panlok) Seleksi Nasional Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SNMPTN) 2010 akan berubah fungsi. Jika sebelumnya, bertugas menerima pendaftaran, maka tahun ini Panlok hanya membantu pendaftaran SNMPTN.
Jumlah Panlok untuk tahun 2010 ini sama seperti tahun sebelumnya, sekitar 100 orang yang tersebar di Indonesia. Hanya saja, fungsinya hanya membantu pendaftar. Karena pendaftaran SNMPTN dilakukan secara online.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) untuktahun ajaran 2011-2012 melaksanakan seleksi penerimaan mahasiswa baru melalui 2 jalur,yakni seleksi nasional (SNMPTN) dan seleksi mandiri (UM UPI). Pelaksanaan seleksi nasional bersamaan dengan PTN lainnya, sedang info seleksi mandiri UPI adalah sebagai berikut:

UNAIR buka Jalur Mandiri
Seperti tahun-tahun sebelumnya,UNAIR tetap mengadakan seleksi mandiri,yang diberi nama Penelusuran Minat dan Kemampuan (PMDK) dalam 2 gelombang, yang pelaksanaannya pada bulan juli 2011. Jadwal pelaksanaan kegiatan seleksi tersebut:

Seleksi Masuk (SIMAK) Univ. Indonesia adalah pola seleksi yang tidak membedakan jenis kelamin, agama, suku, ras, kedudukan sosial dan tingkat kemampuan ekonomi. SIMAK-UI adalah seleksi masuk untuk jenjang program S1 Regular, Vokasi (D3), S1 Paralel dan S1 Kelas Khusus Internasional (KKI), S2, Profesi dan S3 secara bersamaan. Dalam upaya pemerataan kesempatan belajar di UI, maka SIMAK-UI dilaksanakan secara serentak, sehingga siswa atau siapapun yang ingin masuk UI dapat mengikuti seleksi di beberapa lokasi kota terdekat dengan tempat tinggalnya, tanpa harus datang ke Depok. Untuk TA 2011/2012, mengikuti Permendiknas 34/2010, maka SIMAK-UI direncanakan tanggal 3 JULI 2011.
SIMAK-UI BUKAN jalur MANDIRI,dan UI tidak memiliki jalur Mandiri. Untuk Jenjang S1 Reguler, Biaya Pendidikannya sama jika diterima melalui jalur masuk lainnya seperti jalur PPKB (PMDK), SNMPTN dan Prestasi. Besarnya Biaya Pendidikan di S1 Regular adalah BERKEADILAN, bergantung kemampuan orangtua/wali.
